SOS URGENT:

I HAVE A PET ALONE AT HOME!
_U8A8142new.jpg

It is important that your friends and family know that you have a pet at home - sharing this information could save the life of your pets. The animals in our care depend on us, especially in the event of an unforeseen emergency!

Consider sharing the basic care instructions for your pet(s) to someone you trust and make sure they have a key to your home. This way, they’re able to make sure your pets are safe in the event that you’re unable to do so in the case of an accident or sudden illness. We recommend choosing an emergency contact that is reliable and knows what to do if ever you find yourself incapable of taking care of your animals.

But that’s not all! On top of making sure you have someone as an emergency contact who can take care of your pets and other basic things for you, it’s also important to equip yourself with small, simple tools that will allow other people to know you have a pet who may be home alone.

Your pets won’t be able to call anyone to let them know they’re alone and need to be fed and cared for. Our pets are vulnerable and can quickly fall ill themselves if there’s no one looking after them.

If you find yourself in a situation where you’re unable to inform others that you have an animal at home alone, these steps could help save the life of your pet:

- Keep a small card in your wallet that indicates you have an animal (or animals) alone at
home and include the contact information of someone you trust.
- Use a bright keychain connected to this card. The Montreal SPCA and pet stores like
Mondou sell kits that include a card and key ring.
- Place a sticker in the window of your home that indicates the number of pets found
inside and the number of your emergency contact.

Refuge Animex offers this type of sticker for sale at Cafe Chato for $5*

Of course, it’s much better to plan for these things before the emergency occurs!

Ensuring that our pets are taken care of in the event of an emergency is essential, because
they’re not able to let anyone know that they’re home alone.

Having a plan in place is crucial to ensuring our beloved companions are well taken care of -
always!
